Getting Your Life in Balance
My Counseling Story
After a career in industry, and eight years as a Human Resources professional, I changed direction and began my life as a counselor back in the 1990s.
I received my M.S. degree from Chestnut Hill College. My B.A. is from Muhlenberg College.
My first positions in the field were with various agencies that gave me a wide variety of experiences. I worked at Schuylkill County’s MH/MR agency and there I learned how poverty, while suffering mental health issues, is a frightening ordeal. I worked in Allentown’s Program for Women and Families, helping women who have spent time in prison, get back to a more normal life. From there I became the first male sexual abuse counselor at Crime Victims Council of Lehigh Valley. There I learned to work with rape victims and sexual abuse surviors. I also got experience in traumatic grief there by working with the families of homicide victims. While at Crime Victims Council, I also was part of their Lehigh Valley Crisis Response Team and I participated in some victim/ offender remediation. I spent a year trying to help rehabilitate sex offenders at Forensic Treatment Sevices.
The past seventeen years I have been working in private practice at two fine practices in the Lehigh Valley. Those were Bethlehem Counseling Associates and Otto Psychological Associates. In private practice I have worked with individuals, couples, and families. I am experienced in therapy for anxiety, depression, grief, sexual abuse, life transitions. I have done counseling with many couples and am experienced working with the LGBTQ+ community.
When asked what my counseling style is I like to answer “whatever works”. I am solution focused and am an adherent of Positive Psychology. I firmly believe that the most important thing is the connection between therapist and client. I try my best to provide a warm and safe and caring environment to make talking freely an easy and welcome thing to do.

My Slatington Story
The writer Thomas Wolfe famously said “You can’t go home again”. By opening my counseling practice, in my hometown, I’m out to prove him wrong!
Born and raised in Slatington, born on West Franklin and last lived there on East Franklin, I love my little town. I attended Lincoln Elementary followed by Slatington Junior and Senior High Schools, graduating as a proud Bulldog in 1970.
And yes, I’ve explored Bedbug Cave, fished in Trout Creek, and swam in the quarries. I’ve fed the fish in the fish hatchery and I’ve drunk from the Fireman’s Statue water fountain. I helped move the library farther “uptown”. I even served on Borough Council for a short time, a long long time ago.
My professional career has taken me all over the world and all over this fine nation. I have extolled Slatington’s virtues, and defended against its slights, every chance I have had. I am proud to say that I grew up in the Blackboard Capital of America.
My office in Borough Hall contains some Slatington memorabilia. Stop in and say hello!
